When Gildram's horn fell off, Rivenhald carved it into a staff. Its surface was covered in a layer of eternal rime, cold as the bare bones of the northern winds. Every time the staff struck the ground, it left tiny cracks in the frozen earth-much like the man 40 himself, silently enduring, silently fracturing. Eirlys once asked him why he never named the staff, but he only gripped it tighter, his knuckles turning white. Some things are too brittle for words.
